Position Summary

The Senior Trade Compliance Specialist ensures compliance with Thermo Fisher Scientific's export activities and corporate policies and adhere to applicable U.S. and non-U.S. laws and regulations pertaining to international trade.

Responsibilities

  • Is primary contact at the site and works with the Divisional Global Trade Compliance Team and if needed with the Corporate Global Trade Compliance Team
  • Responsible for transactional order review according to export control regulations (e.g. end-use certificate, complete customer background check etc.)
  • Participate in, develop and conduct training activities for individuals and groups pertaining to export regulations
  • Evaluate all new Government agency requirements to ensure export compliance with changes and incorporation into day to day operations and standard operating procedures
  • Connect with affiliated business units overseas to streamline export processes
  • Ensure that proposed transactions are screened for Denied Person and Entities, restricted end-uses, and diversion
  • Blocking, reviewing, and releasing orders and shipments in the relevant systems and contacting decision-makers for approval if vital
  • Prove that the company has detailed current work processes to guarantee adherence to US and local regulations regarding the movement of goods in and out of the country and the internal Import and Export Management Systems
  • Reviewing and updating the export control process and SOP according to business requirement
  • Submit and/or audit Export declarations submissions
  • Apply for licenses as vital
  • Interact effectively with multiple functional areas including management, supply chain, distribution, engineering, finance, IT and legal.
  • Supporting general issues/problems related to trade compliance topics (risk management, technology transfer, etc.)
  • Supporting IT projects related to trade compliance processes

Skills & Qualifications Required

  • Proven ability in trade compliance/export control in a multinational company
  • Ability to read and interpret government regulations
  • Experience in developing work procedures and written instructions.
  • Knowledge in the field of customs regulations and export control
  • Highly proficient in English (written and spoken)
  • Experience with export control authorities
  • In-depth core competence regarding US and EU export control and sanctions regulations
  • Proficient in PPT and Excel, SAP experience is a plus
